NASPA Club #620 - a member club of the North American Scrabble® Players Association

Welcome!

This is the home of tournament and club Scrabble in Charleston, West Virginia - the Kanawha Valley Scrabble Club, or NASPA Club #620. We are the first and oldest club in West Virginia authorized by the North American Scrabble Players Association. Feel free to browse around our site, learn all about us, and come play a game or two (or three).

About our club

We were founded on May 24, 2005 when the National Scrabble Association's Director of Clubs and Tournaments, Joe Edley, called and bestowed the number 620 upon our little club. On April 1, 2009, we transitioned to a new parent organization and became NASPA Club #620, and adopted the name Kanawha Valley Scrabble Club to better define who we are.

We meet on a regular basis and play lots of Scrabble. For some of us it is becoming (or already is) a deep-rooted obsession.

Our skill levels range from "I play pretty often" to some of the highest-rated players in the state. We are an informal group and we all enjoy a good game. We welcome anyone who would like to play with us, whether it's only once or every time we meet.

How to join

Just show up at one of our meetings. No paperwork to fill out, no approval process - all are welcome. Your first ten games are free of charge, games in subsequent sessions incur a minimal cost (most of which is returned in prizes). If you have a Deluxe Scrabble Board, you are encouraged to bring it.

How we play

Chances are you've played Scrabble before. The rules we use are the official NSA tournament rules, which differ from the rules that come with the game. Newcomers to our club are allowed certain rules exceptions during their free ten game trial period. Here is a brief synopsis of what to expect.

Study lists, books, and gear

If you want to beef up your vocabulary, we have word lists available in Adobe PDF format. You can also download a scoresheet and use it in your next game. Impress your friends and family! Or, if you want to shop, we have some links to important Scrabble gear like books and timers.

Once you've gotten to know this game a little, you might be interested in joining our parent organization, the North American Scrabble Players Association. NASPA is an independent player-run organization which oversees clubs and tournaments across the continent.

What are you waiting for?

Thanks for stopping by. Contact us if you have any questions, and come out and play a few games! We'd love to see you.
